Our Cosmetic Dental Whitening Services
Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental service because it is effective, doesn’t take long, and is relatively affordable.
Say Goodbye to Stained Teeth
Teeth can become stained and discolored for several reasons, including:
- loss of enamel due to age
- certain types of medications
- dark liquids, such as coffee, tea, and red wine
- tobacco products
- trauma or a procedure near your teeth
- congenital discoloration during tooth formation
Good Candidates for Our Professional Teeth Whitening Services
Unfortunately, some discolorations or stains are not effectively removed by dental whitening. You may be a good candidate for cosmetic teeth whitening if your teeth are yellow, not brown or gray. In general, younger adults get better results than older adults. Your dental condition should also be in good shape. You should not get a whitening procedure if you have active decay, gum disease, or tooth sensitivity.
At-Home Whitening Kits vs. In-Office Teeth Whitening
Have you been wondering if you should try an at-home whitening kit instead of going to the dentist for a professional whitening treatment? Both the at-home treatments and the in-office treatments can be effective. Coming to the dental office speeds up the results. It can take weeks to get the same results at home that you get in one appointment at Junction Dental.
Teeth Whitening at the Dentist
The in-office teeth whitening process begins with an initial exam. The dentist will examine the staining on your teeth and determine if dental whitening is a viable option for you. At Junction Dental, we always educate our patients on the process of any procedure we do, including the risks and benefits that can result.
- To prep your mouth for the procedure we start with matching your existing tooth shades, taking photos, then we use a lip retractor to carefully protect your gums, lips, and cheeks.
- Then, we apply a whitening gel onto the surface of your teeth. Our office uses “Opalescence” products by Ultradent. This gel is left to cure for 15-minute intervals.
- The gel is then removed, and a new coat is applied if needed. We repeat the procedure until we reach the desired shade of white. The total procedure time varies but usually lasts about an hour.
The procedure is not painful, but it can cause short-term sensitivity and discomfort in your teeth.
How Long Does a Dental Whitening Treatment Last?
Teeth whitening results do not last forever, unfortunately. The length of time varies depending on your diet and habits. You might consider getting professional whitening services once a year for a lasting white smile.
How to Care for Your Teeth After Professional Teeth Whitening
To keep your teeth as bright and healthy as possible, continue to floss and brush regularly. Avoid or limit your consumption of red wine, black coffee or tea, and other foods that contain an intense pigment. Also, avoid smoking.
How Much Does Teeth Whitening Cost?
Most dental plans do not cover the costs of professional teeth whitening. Contact our office for a price estimate.
